Genealogical Publishing Company and its sister companies, Clearfield Company and Gateway Press, are always on the lookout for new material to publish in book form or on CD-ROM. The information below will help you determine which publisher has the best fit for the book or CD you'd like to see published.

Genealogical Publishing Company (GPC) and Clearfield Company
These companies are both commercial publishers of how-to books, reference books, and CD-ROMs in genealogy, local history, and related fields. (Neither GPC nor Clearfield publishes family histories, which are the province of their sister company, Gateway Press.) Both companies assume all of the production, printing, and marketing costs that go into the publishing process. In the majority of cases, GPC and Clearfield pay their authors a royalty based on the list price of a given publication. Generally speaking, GPC titles cover broader subjects than Clearfield's, and, accordingly, have greater demand in the marketplace. Some GPC books are published in cloth, others in paper; virtually all Clearfield titles are printed as short-run paperbacks. The editorial and marketing staffs of both companies work together in determining which publishers imprint is more appropriate for a given title.
